Outdoor Activity Kits
Part of living lighter includes connecting to the planet we live on.
In 2005, Richard Louv coined the term Nature Deficit Disorder to describe the alleged growing trend of children spending less and less time outdoors resulting in behavioral problems. Other environmental educators believe that children won’t be willing to take care of the earth — if they don’t fall in love with it first.
Sustainable South Osborne has created outdoor activity kits available for free at both Lord Roberts Community Centre and Riverview Community Centres. Each of the four kits is based on a different theme including:
THESE KITS ARE FREE TO BORROW – JUST LIKE YOU WOULD A LIBRARY BOOK.
These kits act as the first step (or maybe your 100th) to getting yourself and your children outside.
Lord Roberts Community Centre:
The kits are available from the Teen Drop-In Lounge in the basement of the community centre.
They are stored near the kitchen.
Riverview Community Centre:
The kits are available from the canteen. They are stored beside the fridge.
